Return of Sunday Mass
3rd July 2020

St. Mary’s Parish Rasharkin Parish Pastoral Council

Church Opening and Attendance - July 2020 Onwards

We are delighted that from Sunday 5 July we will have Sunday Mass open to the public, at both 9am and 11am in St Mary’s Church, Rasharkin. Until further notice, weekday Masses will not be open to the public, also there will be no Masses in The Plains Chapel. We now look forward to a beginning of a return to normality but this will not be straightforward and we will have to operate under many restrictions for the well-being of all the parish.

We appreciate your co-operation with the following measures which will be in place: The capacity of the St Mary’s Chapel, Rasharkin, for both Masses on a Sunday will be initially limited to 80 people with social distancing in place. You will note that seating areas have been identified and are clearly marked. Until further notice, the gallery, sacristy, altar and Adoration Chapel all remain out of bounds.

Please note that in the event that more than 80 people wish to attend a particular Mass, you may be asked to remain in your vehicle to listen to Mass. You may wish to stand outside the Chapel, weather permitting, as a loudspeaker will be in operation. Please also note that you may be asked to vacate your seat by a steward if an elderly or infirm person requires seating. The requirement for social distancing does not apply to a household sitting together (living in the same house only).

Stewards will be in the Church to help with seating. If you are willing to steward at Masses, please complete your name and contact details below and drop it into the Parochial House letterbox.

Parishioners are asked to follow and comply with all signage in and around the Chapel, and with any further instructions from the stewards. Communion queuing will be seat by seat, in single file. Exiting the Chapel will be seat by seat, and in single file. Until further notice, we ask you to receive Holy Communion in the hand only.

The dispensation from attending Sunday and Holy Day Masses is still currently in operation until further notice.

Everyone entering the Church should enter by the door from the back-car park and exit by the tower door. This will enable a one-way system. Parishioners are reminded that the back-car park is for the use of disabled people and those with mobility issues only. Everyone else should use the Chapel car park on the Gortahar Road.

After each Mass, the Church will be cleaned (sanitized). If you are willing to help with this, please complete your name and contact details below and drop this into the Parochial House letterbox.

Ministers of the Word and Eucharistic Ministers will be contacted separately and advised of arrangements.

Until further notice Missalettes will not be available, Altar Servers, Choirs and Prayers of the Faithful readers will not be required at Masses. There will be no Children’s Liturgy at any Mass until further notice.

Sanitising stations are available at Church entry and exit points and all parishioners are asked to use these upon entering and leaving the Church. Collection baskets will not be passed around. Instead, a box will be available in the back porch (at the tower door) into which parishioners may drop their Offertory gift upon leaving the church.

We await further guidance on weddings and funerals. If you have a child for Baptism, please contact Fr Luke from the beginning of August 2020.

It is most important that anyone who is vulnerable or unwell or is displaying any symptoms that might suggest covid-19, should stay at home

Mass will continue to be available Monday to Friday, and Sunday, via the webcam on the Parish website and 108FM radio. This information and any updates will also be available on the Parish website, porch noticeboards, and the "Rasharkin Parish” Facebook page. We appreciate your patience during this time, and we hope the current restrictions will soon be eased. Further updates will be issued in due course.
