St Mary's Folk Choir

St. Mary's Folk Choir

St. Mary's Folk Choir was formed in March 1988, under the guidance of Fr. Vincent McKinley P.P., to sing at the Saturday evening vigil Mass.  It consisted of more than twenty singers and musicians.

The choir has assisted at all First Communions and Confirmations since then as well as Saturday evening Masses. In 2006 under Canon Murphy's patronage the choir recorded a C.D. of sacred music and it is hoped to record another one next year to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Members of the Folk choir are drawn from Years 4 - 7 of St Patrick's P.S. Rasharkin as well as older pupils from several local second level schools under the leadership of Mrs Maura McGuiggan and organist Mrs Leyonia Davey both of whom have been involved with the choir from the beginning.

Mass is enhanced by the enthusiasm and reverence of the young singers and musicians each week, and it is hoped to continue this in the future.
